        I get alot of emails and questions about how to improve your Jiu-jitsu. My last email was to a regular guy and what he can do to improve his game. The guard is without argument one of the most important positions in Jiu-Jitsu  and one of the easiest to get confused about due to the great numbers of positions and methods. So in order to help all those who want to improve thier guard, we focus on that area till your confortable.
         Improving your game is not easy. Generally, there are two ways to improve your technique: drilling and sparring. Traditional drills or static repetitions are a good way to work on the mechanics, but you need a partner who is will to spend alot of time practicing with you. Sparring also has it's drawbacks. Because your sparing partner will have his own style and preferences, it can sometimes be difficult to successfully execute and repeat a technique. Also whe sparring, you are less likely to try new moves, wooried that you might fail and get stuck in a bad position. To really improve your game, you need to do both. You should drill and repeat your techniques with a partner, then apply them in a sparring session. A complete training system should force you to repeat and focus on the specific aspect you want to improve, helping you learn the nuances and intricacies of each position. Unlike sparring, when you practice drills, the outcome is predetermined; you can repeat it over and over and learn from your mistakes.....
